Advanced Research in Telecommunications and Information Technologies
Research is one of the essential components of quality training at Telecom Bretagne, ensuring that the students receive the best teaching, access to the school’s research laboratories and training via research.
Telecom Bretagne's 160 research-lecturers regularly win awards for their research in different fields such as Signal Processing, Medical Information Processing, Optics and Microwaves. Their services and expertise are often requested by companies and research bodies.
Telecom Bretagne is the leading research centre in turbocodes, a revolutionary coding system invented in its laboratories and now used in 3G mobile phones and space transmission. This invention won the prestigious Marconi Prize in 2005.
The final-year students organise «science study days» which attract a wide public. Recent themes have been: bio-chips, mathematics and literature, virtual communities, fixed or animated image compression, Ultra Wide Band and optics and computers. Third-year students can also prepare one of the 8 research masters degrees proposed, before enrolling for a PhD thesis.
Telecom Bretagne is authorised to grant PhD degrees and each year offers some 30 subjects, supervised by one of the 9 departments.
