Dr Alison Gourvès-Hayward


Dr Alison Gourvès-Hayward is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the English and Japanese departments at Telecom-Bretagne. She was educated in Great Britain (BA Honours French and English, University College London, PGCE, Leicester University) France (BA, MA English and Irish History) and Ireland, where she completed her PhD in Intercultural studies entitled In Search of a Third Place- a telecollaborative model for languaculture learning, at Dublin City University. She has extensive experience in education, interpreting and translation, and has worked as a teacher of French in Great Britain and as English and Intercultural lecturer for many French institutions. Her current post involves setting up English and Intercultural courses for engineering students from 48 countries and in-service language training courses for staff and post-graduate students, managing a team of English and Japanese teachers and teaching English language, culture and literature and intercultural communication courses. Her research interests include the use of conflict management in intercultural negotiation, telecollaborative intercultural learning and self assessment in intercultural communication and she has published extensively in this field. She is the French coordinator of the LOLIPOP (Language On-Line Portfolio Project) which is an on-line self assessment tool with an enhanced intercultural dimension.
