Pôle de recherche avancée en communciations

The Telecom Group of the Institut Mines-Télécom is a leading public research organization in the field of information and communication sciences and technologies (ICT), working within the French and European research and innovation schemes.

The research conducted by the Institut Miones-Telecom covers a broad spectrum ranging from components to uses and practices, whilst remaining its focus on the institute’s core business, ICT. This positioning is unique among French research bodies.

It contributes visibly and significantly to innovation in the field of Information and Communication Science and Technology.

It is within the framework of Telecom Bretagne’s research strategy that it was decided to create the Pôle de Recherche Avancé en Communications (PRACom) - Pole for Advanced Research in Communications. This was decided with the support of the state, the local authorities (Brest Urban Community, Finistère General Council, Brittany Regional Council) and European funds. It has been established on Telecom Bretagne campus in Brest.

PRACom is extending and intensifying the research effort already accomplished by Telecom Bretagne in the field of communication and information coding and, in particular, Turbocodes.

Its objective is to contribute to developing future multimedia services. It works especially on the 3rd and 4th generation mobile telephony, local radio loops, networked objects, indoor radio-communications and the terrestrial and satellite broadcasting of internet services and digital television
