Telecom Bretagne has participated in the second AERES campaign for the evaluation of French research units. Following the results, promulgated on May 5, the Latim (processing of medical information) and Labsticc (Science and technical information, communication and knowledge) laboratories to which Telecom-Bretagne contributes were respectively classified A + and A.

AERES grading takes into account four criteria related to laboratory assessment: scientific production, attractiveness, organization, strategy. The ratings A and A + for two laboratories indicate that they have a proven international visibility for scientific output, they are able to attract researchers and top level international doctorate students and have a strong capacity for innovation in their field of specialty.
For Latim, which brings together research teams from Telecom Bretagne, UBO and teaching hospital, this is of course the recognition of outstanding work carried out for nearly 10 years and which has won numerous awards and produced over 300 international publications.

For the young Labsticc laboratory, established in 2008 and bringing together research teams from Telecom Bretagne, UBO and UBS, it is great to be able to measure itself up against the largest historical laboratories in the field. Propulsed by the discovery of turbo codes, Labsticc has structured its research on the wide field of applications of information technology: from the simplest to the most complex. Irisa, to which the Telecom Bretagne research teams and computer networks will be linked in 2012, was also rated A +.

An independent agency for evaluation of French research

AERES, created by the French research programming law 2006, seeks to contribute to improving the quality of research and higher education, in line with EU recommendations and decisions of European Ministers within the framework of the Bologna Process. It exists to evaluate institutions and research organizations, institutions of higher education and research institutions and foundations of scientific cooperation as well as the national agency for research, taking into account all their missions and their activities. Using the best international experts, AERES ensures the transparency of its ratings by making publicly available all its evaluation reports and publishing procedures and evaluation methods.
