The « Telecom » crew, comprising students from both Telecom Bretagne and Telecom ParisTech, finished 4th in the « student » category at the 42nd Edhec Regatta (Edhec Boat Cup) which was held in Brest, from April 17th to 24th. « Voile Telecom » club members tell us more.

A mixed Telecom crew made finding sponsors easier

Telecom Bretagne is keen on sailing (the brand new Pogo 10.50 attests to that) and the students too are pretty keen ! From April 17th to 24th last, the 42nd edition of the Edhec Sailing Regatta took place with two Telecom Bretagne students taking part. This year a Telecom crew was set up with crew members from both Telecom Bretagne and Telecom ParisTech. This made finding sponsors that much easier. So, it was the Sopra Group that financed our project, which also, notably, included competing in a preparatory regatta in Lorient.

Competing in the « Grand Surprise » class.

The school’s new Pogo not being insured for the competition, we chose a Grand Surprise, boat which is a sporty vessel, with an imposing sail span, and which is the most commonly used boat in the Edhec regatta. The Grand Surprise has the highest level of sailing on view in the race, due to the fact that some schools get professional skippers to lead their crews. Despite serious competition (since we were a 100% student crew), we came 10th of 52 boats, 4th in the« student »category and 9th, in the final classification, of 93 boats classed as 100% student !

The Bay of Brest as our playing field

For one week, we competed in a series of tactical short course and coastal races, which meant sailing well into the Bay and also gave us the chance to discover the beautiful coastline between Brest and Douarnenez, sailing around the Tas de Pois and the Cap de la Chèvre.

Sailing means teamwork

The sport of sailing is also an extraordinary  way to get to know and share with your fellow crew members, since we spend many hours together on the boat. Sailing engenders team spirit, involves helping each other out as well as creating a group dynamic. That is, in essence what  5 000  young men and women seek every year at the Edhec regatta.

Many thanks

We would like to thank all who helped us with the project : Telecom ParisTech, Telecom Bretagne, and the Sopra Group, of course. We sincerely hope that other Telecom students will carry on from here and continue to represent the school in this great competition, and in the sailing world in general.
