“La Lettre de L’Étudiant” has recently published a preview of the 2011 engineering school rankings . Telecom Bretagne ranks in the A group for Bac +2 engineering schools and is the highest ranked school in Brittany.
Today, France has a nation-wide network of 200 engineering schools. More or less « grandes », general or specialist, starting after the Baccalauréat or after Bac+ 2years specialist studies, they offer a wide range of courses. For the first time, the engineering schools concerned are presented by group rather than simply by rank. To what are the ranking differences between the schools in the different groups due? To reputation, to the means at their disposal but also their capacity to adapt to a changing world.
The criteria taken into account for the rankings are divided into three main categories:
- Academic standard: research performance, turnover from contracts, number of PhD students..
- Ties with industry: basic starting salary, total « taxe d’apprentissage », degree of industrial funding of the school…
- International exposure: percentage of foreign graduate students and French dual-degree graduates, number of foreign Eiffel Excellence Scholarship students…
